Culture Minister Vira Rojpojchanarat said his agency is proposing to the cabinet to declare 2019 as the Year of Thai Culture, in keeping with the resolution of the ASEAN ministerial meeting in Indonesia which endorsed 2019 as the Year of ASEAN Cultures.
The cultural year theme will have action plans in place to arrange activities to celebrate the Thai and ASEAN cultures, including a special Khon performance which will be nominated as Thailand‘s intangible cultural heritage at the UNESCO, the publication of cultural heritage books featuring the ASEAN cultures, studies on possible cultural cooperation with ASEAN members and the arrangement of Thai cultural performances in foreign countries.
The Ministry of Culture has prepared cultural research projects in fiscal 2020 to reflect national needs and comply with the 20-year national strategy, which will allow those researches to be concretely applicable for cultural management and polices, such as the project to promote Thai films in the global market, the initiative to have each Thai child being able to play at least one Thai instrument and the creative economy promotion approach.
